Food Safety Agency Identifies Widespread Violations in Dairy and Meat Products

Recent analyses conducted by the Food and Veterinary Agency (FVA) have revealed significant breaches of food standards within the Macedonian market, particularly impacting the dairy and meat industries. The findings, stemming from intensified inspections in March, highlight concerns regarding product composition and labeling accuracy. Inspectors collected a total of 91 samples – 45 from dairy producers and 46 from meat and dairy producers – primarily during operations in the Skopje area.

Detailed results indicated widespread non-compliance with established regulations. Specifically, the presence of prohibited substances, notably vegetable fat, was a recurring issue. The FVA’s Svetlana Kolariç reported that in dairy product samples, violations were observed in 100% of the analyzed items.

Within the meat and dairy product category, 90% of the samples contained deviations from prescribed standards. These issues centered around the use of excessive fat and a lack of clear declaration of ingredients. The agency’s investigation focused on ensuring accurate labeling of products, particularly regarding cheese and other dairy items.

The FVA continues to monitor the situation and implement corrective measures to safeguard consumer health and maintain food safety standards.
