European spending: 80% of Macedonian citizens would not change their political conviction for money

Majority of Macedonian Citizens Firm in Political Beliefs, Despite Reported Interference

New research indicates a strong adherence to political views among Macedonian citizens, with a significant proportion stating they would not alter their stances for financial compensation. An analysis suggests that approximately 80% of Macedonian citizens would maintain their current political beliefs regardless of a monetary incentive. This figure represents one of the highest percentages recorded across Europe regarding resistance to shifting political affiliations for financial gain.

The findings are part of a broader investigation into potential external influence. A separate analysis highlighted the prevalence of negative sentiment online, with 98% of comments directed at political figures exhibiting elements of hostility. This research was presented at an Institute for Democracy “Societas Civilis” (IDSC) organized event on June 1, 2026, examining two years of interference related to the ENCOD project.

The event, held in Skopje at 12:15 p.m., focused on documenting this sustained engagement. The study underscores the stability of political opinions within the Macedonian population and highlights the ongoing efforts to understand and address potential external influences on Macedonian citizens.
