A large-scale theft has occurred at the Dračevo electric substation, located between the Lisica and Dračevo railway stations. According to the MŽ Infrastructure, the incident has caused a complete disruption to a significant portion of the railway’s electric power supply network. Initial assessments estimate the direct material loss associated with the theft to be approximately five million euros.
The perpetrators forcibly removed major components from the facility. Specifically, the theft involved two large electric power transformers, each weighing over 30 tons. In addition to the main units, the thieves also removed transformer oil, dismantled transformer windings, and various other hazardous components.
The looting extended beyond the primary equipment. The substation was stripped of essential operational assets, including numerous cables, insulators, and washing machines. Virtually all devices and elements necessary for the normal functioning of the railway infrastructure were targeted and stolen.
This comprehensive nature of the theft has severely hampered the region’s rail operations, necessitating significant repair and replacement efforts. The removal of these key pieces of electrical infrastructure represents a substantial blow to the operational capacity of the railway system. Authorities are currently assessing the full scope of the damage and the timeline required to restore full electrical functionality to the line.
