Archaeological excavations in Ranshofen, Austria, have concluded, and subsequent laboratory analyses conducted in Vienna have revealed new details concerning a mysterious mass grave unearthed earlier this spring. The site yielded the remains of 120 young men, aged between 15 and 25. Anthropological examinations of the remains indicated that a significant number of the deceased exhibited signs of severe vitamin C deficiency, a condition directly linked to chronic malnutrition.

Of particular note was the discovery of an amputated leg. The clean severance below the knee suggests that the amputation was the result of deliberate medical intervention. Michaela Binder, from the archaeological service “Neues Wissen,” stated that this finding provides strong evidence of nearby medical care at the location.
