Albanian police have confirmed the death of a man who was suspected of involvement in the murder of a 20-year-old Portuguese national. The incident reportedly took place early Tuesday morning in Kasim, located on the Albanian border. The victim has been identified as Luis Miguel Varela Mendes.
According to police reports, the altercation stemmed from an earlier incident that occurred at a beach bar named “Principetes,” where a female patron was allegedly assaulted. Following this, several bartenders were accused of attempting to intimidate Mr. Mendes, pressuring him to relocate to an adjacent bar called “Paradise.”
The confrontation escalated when 29-year-old David Erteven reportedly continued to intimidate Mendes.
The situation culminated when another individual, identified as Socrate Vata—also known by the alias Socrate Lipan—allegedly attempted to fatally stab Mendes with a knife. The suspect was subsequently apprehended by authorities on Tuesday morning in the area of Lehavane Kaj Fier. Albanian police have since confirmed that this individual is deceased.
The details surrounding the initial assault and the subsequent confrontation have been the subject of the ongoing investigation.
