According to the Ministry of Health, as of August 18, the country has registered a total of 38 cases of West Nile fever. Of these, 36 have been officially confirmed, with two additional instances considered likely. The current data indicates that 37 of the reported cases are located within the Skopje region, while one case was recorded in Veles.
The latest figures report four deaths associated with the disease, noting that these fatalities were linked to a non-invasive form of the illness. Furthermore, officials issued a specific appeal for the registration of individuals aged 62 to 83 who have been hospitalized at the Clinic for Infectious Diseases in Skopje. It was also noted that three of the deceased individuals had documented comorbidities.
In terms of gender distribution among the recorded cases, the figures show 28 males and 10 females. Reviewing the recent period, a total of 12 new cases were reported between August 12 and August 18, which period also saw three new fatalities. During a recent press conference, these details were presented to the public.
The Ministry continues to monitor the spread of West Nile fever and advises the public to remain vigilant regarding the transmission patterns of the virus.
