As of August 18, the Ministry of Health reported a total of 38 cases of West Nile fever nationwide. The recorded figures included 36 confirmed cases and two probable cases. Geographically, the majority of these instances were concentrated in the Skopje region, with one case reported in Veles.
Regarding mortality, the data indicated that there have been four deaths attributed to the non-invasive form of the disease. Hospitalization data from the Skopje Infectious Disease Clinic revealed that ten individuals, aged 62 to 83 years, were treated for the illness. During a daily press conference, officials noted that three of the deceased individuals had underlying comorbidities.
Demographically, out of the 38 registered cases, 28 were male and 10 were female. Analyzing the most recent period, from August 12 to August 18, the report detailed the emergence of 12 new cases, which included three new fatalities. Furthermore, following the declaration of the West Nile fever epidemic in specific municipalities, an additional 12 new cases were reported during that same timeframe, also accounting for three new deaths.
The continuous monitoring of this disease remains a key focus for public health authorities as they manage the current outbreak.
