Firefighters are continuing operations overnight as a significant fire persists in the village of Kruševo in Marioevo. While crews managed to approach the settlement, the intensity of the blaze necessitated tactical measures to mitigate the immediate danger to the village. Stojan Čengić, Chief of the Department for Fire and Rescue, provided an update on the efforts on the ground.
Čengić reported that the department engaged in active firefighting operations in the immediate vicinity of Kruševo village. He confirmed that efforts were successful in extinguishing the flames and controlling the fire’s spread away from inhabited areas. “We had a firefight in the immediate vicinity of the Kruševo village, but we were able to extinguish it and push it down from the path,” Čengić stated.
He emphasized the inherent dangers faced by the personnel, noting that the situation presented multiple risks. He also mentioned that, at one point during the intense effort, team members experienced strain regarding available water and morale while battling the blaze. Despite the challenges, Čengić expressed an optimistic outlook regarding the overall containment efforts.
The focus remains on managing the ongoing fire threat to protect the village and surrounding properties. The dedicated work of the firefighters is continuing throughout the night to ensure the area remains secure.
