A mosquito carrying the West Nile virus has been linked to a recent case transmission in Macedonia. According to the Minister of Health, Sašo Klepovski, the nation is currently managing an outbreak of West Nile fever. The Minister confirmed that a third patient has died from the illness.
Furthermore, six other hospitalized patients remain in critical condition, requiring intensive care treatment for infectious diseases and fever states. The most recently reported deceased patient was 61 years old. Reports indicated that the individual had passed away in the hospital; medical assessments noted that, apart from partially healed body weight loss, there were no other significant accompanying injuries.
During a recent press conference, authorities provided an update on the scope of the outbreak. To date, 35 confirmed cases of West Nile virus infection have been identified across the country. Additionally, three cases are currently classified as suspicious and are undergoing further diagnostic investigation.
