VIDEO | TOŠKOVSKO – Water can be used for sprinkling and washing, but not for drinking

Laboratory analysis of the municipal water supply in Gostivar indicates that the supply is suitable for several domestic applications, provided specific precautions are observed. Experts determined that while the water can be safely utilized for purposes such as watering plants, general washing, cleaning household items, and cleaning gardens, it currently poses risks for direct consumption or use in preparing food. The assessment was conducted by an expert team from the “Water and Sewerage” Institute in Skopje.

Following the analysis, the findings were reported to the Minister of Internal Affairs. Previously, authorities outlined a multi-stage plan to enhance the water quality. This initial phase required the hyperchlorination of the entire water supply system.

Minister Panče Todorovski stated that this hyperchlorination process is a necessary preliminary step. This treatment is designed to achieve two goals: first, to ensure the water is sufficiently disinfected for general technical use, and second, to prepare the system for eventual use as safe drinking water. Consequently, while the immediate recommendation permits non-potable uses, strict guidelines must be followed to mitigate health risks associated with drinking the current supply or using it for food preparation.

The ongoing technical process aims to elevate the quality of the water to meet full potable standards.
