According to the Delaware sheriff’s office, the event took place late in the evening near the O’Shogness reservoir, approximately 16 kilometers northwest of Columbus, Ohio. Sheriff Jere Freebairn provided details regarding the sequence of events. He stated that some members of the group were engaged in fishing activities when an older individual entered the water to swim. Subsequently, a child fell into the river, which led to the overturning of a vehicle.
According to the sheriff, efforts to rescue those involved were complicated. Freebairn reported that two adult men initially attempted to provide assistance, but they themselves began to succumb to the water. Further attempts by other adults to save the trapped individuals proved fatal for the rescuers as well.
