Over 1,400 sheep and goats were euthanized due to overdoses, according to the AHV, there is no danger for the livelihood

The Food and Veterinary Agency (FVA) has reported on the ongoing detection of a disease affecting sheep and goats across Macedonia. As of July 15th, a total of 17 affected hives have been registered since the first confirmation at the end of January. The agency confirmed that as of the end of July, ten additional hives containing sickly sheep and goats were identified.

According to data published by the FVA, the affected hives originally housed a total of 2,780 recipient animals. To manage the outbreak, the agency has conducted depopulation efforts, resulting in the processing of over 1,400 animals. To date, 70 cases have been recorded, leading to the culling of 38 animals.

The disease has been confirmed in 15 hives containing sheep and in two hives containing a mix of sheep and goats. The FVA has stated that the disease does not pose a danger to the wider flock population. Geographically, new confirmations have been reported across several areas.

Specifically, new instances have been confirmed in Sas and Cer within the municipality of Makedonska Kamenica; Sokolari in the municipality of Chehievo-Oblesevo; and Bilha and Kosivica in the municipality of Delcze. Furthermore, Maliino in the municipality of Svedjanovo has also reported new affected hives.
