On the day, the inmates do not clean the latrines, and the other – what else to do

A daily work tax has been established for the purpose of maintaining hygiene on the main and regional roads throughout the state, with this arrangement scheduled to remain in effect until July 22, 2026. This initiative is being executed through a formalized cooperation between the Office for the Execution of Sanctions and the JPA Macedonia Pat, operating under the guidelines set forth by a Memorandum of Cooperation for Employment of Convicted Persons. The implementation involves key representatives from both organizations, including Aleksandar Shukovski, Deputy Director of JPA Macedonia Pat, and Aleksandar Pandov, a representative from the Cabinet of the Director of the Office for the Execution of Sanctions.

The individuals contributing to this effort are convicted persons sourced from over 100 penitentiary establishments. These facilities include correctional institutions located in major cities such as Idrizovo, Shtip, Prilep, Kumanovo, Bitola, Skopje, Gevgelija, and Strumica. According to confirmation from the Office for the Execution of Sanctions, these incarcerated persons are integral to the structure of the imposed tax.

The funds generated from this daily work tax are specifically allocated to support the upkeep and cleanliness of the state’s primary and secondary road networks. This structured collaboration aims to utilize correctional labor for public infrastructure maintenance while adhering to the terms of the employment memorandum.
