June was the most deadly month for Ukraine, with over 290 civilians killed in Russian attacks

According to the United Nations, the month of june marked a period of heightened danger for civilians in Ukraine, representing the deadliest month for non-combatants since April 2022. The UN has attributed this escalation to increased Russian attacks targeting areas near the front lines. The UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine (HRMMU) reported that at least 293 Ukrainian civilians were killed during june.

This figure represents a significant increase when compared to previous periods. Specifically, the number of civilian casualties recorded in june was 37% higher than the corresponding period in the previous year, and more than double the number of casualties reported for june of 2024. Daniel Bel, the chief of the HRMMU, stated that the data gathered during june illustrates an alarming escalation trend concerning civilian safety.

Bel attributed this rise in casualties to the intensive and sustained use of ammunition in the conflict zone. The reports indicate that the sustained intensity of hostilities has placed considerable strain on civilian life across the affected regions of Ukraine. The UN continues to monitor the situation, emphasizing the growing number of civilian losses documented throughout the month.
