Data from the State Statistics Institute indicates that the Macedonian tourism sector experienced moderate growth in May 2026. During the month, the country hosted 131,723 tourists, who accounted for a total of 236,727 nights. Similarly, foreign guests dominated the overnight stays, accounting for 75.8 percent of the nights, compared to 24.2 percent from domestic sources. On a month-over-month basis, the number of tourists in May increased by 0.8 percent, and the number of nights recorded a 2.3 percent rise. This month’s slight increase in total tourists was attributed to a significant shift in the visitor profile: domestic tourists saw a rise of 5.2 percent, while the influx of foreign tourists decreased by 14.7 percent.
