Due to years of stagnation, the Macedonian language is gaining systemic care

The engagement of the Inspectorate for Macedonian Language and the participation of inspectors within the institution, alongside the formation of the Macedonian Language Council and the preparation of the National Strategy for the Macedonian Language, are presented as indicators of success rather than inefficiency. These developments, according to the Minister of Culture and Tourism, Zoran Ljutkov, are framed as evidence of his successful supervisory action titled “Inefficient and unheeded application of the provisions of the Law on the use of the Macedonian language,” which is currently under discussion in the Assembly of the Commission for Culture. Minister Ljutkov addressed criticism suggesting the Ministry lacked interest in the Macedonian language.

He emphasized that adherence to the law is a concern for all institutions and that past compliance issues should not become subjects of daily political maneuvering. Stating his commitment to upholding the law, he asserted, “I will not allow any political hypocrisy from those who for years have not heeded the law.”

The Minister’s statements highlight a concerted effort to strengthen the institutional framework surrounding the Macedonian language. The various involvement bodies and strategic preparations underscore a commitment to consistent enforcement.

Ljutkov’s remarks aim to reposition these measures as necessary administrative achievements rather than points of political contention regarding the proper application of the language law.
