MACEDONIA AWARDED BY BRUSSELS – EUROPE WILL REFORM THE FINANCING FROM WESTERN BALKAN

The European Commission is prepared to reallocate financial resources aimed at stimulating the integration of the Western Balkans into the European Union. These funds are channeled through the Fund for reforms and growth for the Western Balkans, which was established in 2024. The initiative is designed to provide financial backing to candidate countries in the region, contingent upon meeting specific criteria.

The primary condition for receiving this support involves the implementation of substantial reforms deemed necessary for the region’s accession to the EU bloc. This fund is operational for the period spanning 2024 to 2027 and carries the overarching goal of doubling the economies of the Western Balkans over the next decade. According to the Commission’s own reports, the disbursement of capital under this project has been limited.

To date, only approximately 673 million euros have been released, representing a fraction of the total allocated amount of 6 billion euros. The structure of the support emphasizes that tangible progress in governance and economic restructuring is prerequisite for further funding. These conditional disbursements are intended to guide the necessary reforms, thereby strengthening the institutional foundations required for deeper integration with the broader European market.

The focus remains on supporting the sustained development and modernization of the Western Balkan economies through adherence to established reform benchmarks.
