Without an election law contract, the electronic voting of the diaspora remains disputable

Disagreements regarding the Electoral Code amendments are impeding progress on the implementation of electronic voting for the diaspora. Specifically, amendments proposed on December 13th and 14th by the SDSM and the League contain disputed clauses related to this electronic voting mechanism. The VMRO-DPMNE stated that an agreement cannot be reached without the resolution of these amendments.

The political deadlock centers on the framework for the next parliamentary elections. According to Nikola Miskovski, spokesperson for the VMRO-DPMNE, the primary point of contention remains the stipulation that future elections must adhere to the existing provisions of the Electoral Code. This disagreement over the electoral framework has resulted in a blockage concerning the pending legislation.

The SDSM and the League have already submitted multiple amendments pertaining to the dates of December 13th and 14th. However, the inability to reconcile differing views on the Electoral Code, particularly concerning the mechanism for electronic voting for citizens abroad, has stalled the process. The announcement detailing this situation was made on July 2nd, 2026.

The core issue revolves around achieving consensus on the electoral law, which is necessary to move forward with the electronic voting procedures for the diaspora.
