More than 800 grievances, SKRM provides assistance from the ILO, did not give ultimatums for the collective agreement

The Syndicate for Culture of Macedonia (SKRM) has submitted a formal request to the International Labour Organization (ILO), asserting that all available mechanisms for the peaceful resolution of disputes concerning the Republic of Macedonia’s cultural collective agreement have been exhausted. According to the statement issued by SKRM, the decision to approach the ILO was influenced by the postponement of the Constitutional Court’s involvement in initiating the agreement, a development the syndicate contends placed the unions in a disadvantageous position. SKRM detailed that the core issue revolves around negotiations for the cultural sector’s collective agreement.

The syndicate alleged that the Ministry of Culture and Tourism failed to engage in the negotiation process to establish a joint resolution for a period exceeding one year. The filing of the request to the ILO represents a significant escalation in the dispute resolution process. By petitioning the international body, SKRM is seeking external mediation following protracted internal disagreements regarding the terms and structure of the agreement.

The submission underscores the impasse between the involved parties. The union’s action signals a lack of confidence in the domestic mechanisms designed to finalize the collective agreement. The focus remains on resolving the foundational disagreements that have stalled the formalization of the sector’s working conditions, with SKRM positioning the ILO as the necessary next step after internal dialogue proved insufficient.
