Assembly to Review Amendments to Poverty Law Following Student Trolley Accident Analysis
The North Macedonian Assembly will convene to consider proposed amendments to the Poverty Law, driven by concerns regarding student safety involving electric trolleys. The proposed changes stem from a detailed analysis of accidents and aim to establish stricter regulations for young operators. Nikola Misevski, coordinator of the VUO-DPMNE delegation, explained that the proposed measures – a minimum age of 18 years for operating an electric trolley and a maximum speed limit of 20 kilometers per hour – are based on the reasoning of protecting students.
According to the Ministry of Interior’s analysis, over half of students involved in accidents with electric trolleys were aged 16 and 17 years. This data forms the core of the proposed legislation. Misevski emphasized the importance of the stringent regulations, stating that the measures are necessary for the reasoning behind safeguarding young students.
The analysis highlights a significant correlation between the ages of involved students – specifically those aged 16 and 17 years – and the occurrence of accidents with electric trolleys. The proposed amendments represent a direct response to this identified risk.
