Newell Commissions World’s Most Expensive Offshore Patrol Vessel
Milliardaire Robert Newell, a prominent figure in internet oversight initiatives, has finalized a contract to construct the world’s most expensive and technologically advanced offshore patrol vessel. The project, spearheaded by Newell’s Inkfish organization, will utilize the expertise of the Norwegian shipyard, VARD. This represents the largest contract ever awarded to a Norwegian shipyard.
The vessel, designated RV11000, is designed for maritime surveillance and deep-sea scientific research. Construction is slated to begin immediately, with the ship expected to operate at depths of up to 11,000 meters. The project aims to support ambitious deep-sea missions, leveraging the capabilities of the Norwegian shipyard.
The RV11000 will measure 162 meters in length and 28 meters in width, significantly exceeding the dimensions of Inkfish’s previous patrol vessel, the RV6000. This new vessel represents a substantial investment by Newell and underscores the organization’s commitment to expanding its operational capabilities. The contract marks a significant milestone for VARD and the Norwegian shipbuilding industry.
