Glyphosate Use in Macedonia Aligned with European Standards, Authority Confirms
Macedonia’s authorization to utilize glyphosate in viticulture is consistent with European Union regulations, according to the Phytosanitary Authority. The confirmation follows inquiries from MKD.mk regarding the planned dusting application of the herbicide. The Authority stated that glyphosate remains permitted for use in Europe until 2033, a decision based entirely on scientific assessments and regulatory decisions made by the EU.
This aligns with the current controls implemented in Macedonia, which have thus far revealed no irregularities. While the risk associated with glyphosate use remains a subject of ongoing debate globally, current monitoring data within Macedonia does not demonstrate a risk percentage lower than that observed across Europe. Macedonia has registered 14 phytopharmaceutical manufacturers to date.
The Authority emphasized that all applications and controls are conducted in accordance with established EU standards, ensuring a consistent approach to managing the risk associated with this widely used active substance. Further updates will be provided as monitoring continues.
