Ukraine and Russia again exchange the bodies of the deceased

Ukraine and Russia Report Significant Casualties in Ongoing Conflict

As the conflict in Ukraine continues, both sides are reporting substantial casualties. Ukrainian state news agencies have confirmed the receipt of 522 bodies of fallen soldiers, with additional bodies received from international sources totaling 33. Meanwhile, Russia has reported over 600 citizens deceased since 2025, according to the German Press Agency (DPA).

The ongoing conflict, which began with a full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, has resulted in considerable losses for both armies. Accurate figures remain difficult to ascertain, with both Ukraine and Russia maintaining a degree of secrecy regarding their reported casualties. Estimates regarding Ukrainian losses indicate approximately 190,000 individuals are confirmed dead or missing.

DPA reports suggest Russian losses exceed 350,000. The United Nations has documented more than 16,100 civilian deaths since the start of the year. The slow but persistent advance of Russian forces has presented significant challenges for Ukrainian military operations, hindering the retrieval of bodies.

The total number of bodies received by all parties remains a critical, yet largely undisclosed, aspect of the ongoing conflict.
