North Macedonian Authorities Take Action Against Islamic State-Affiliated Group
Skopje, North Macedonia – The National Security Agency (NSA) and the Ministry of Internal Affairs have initiated a coordinated operation targeting a terrorist group linked to the Islamic State. The action was led by the main prosecutor responsible for prosecuting organized crime and corruption. Five individuals have been formally indicted as part of the investigation, which centers around the alleged formation of a terrorist organization.
Two of the suspects are implicated in possessing facilities utilized for the detention and support of incarcerated individuals, including a house and a cell specifically designed for prison maintenance. Yesterday, the group was formally charged within the context of criminal case “terrorist organization.” Following the indictment, searches were conducted across multiple locations within Skopje, resulting in the seizure of digital devices and other electronic equipment. All five suspects have prior criminal records.
According to information gathered by the NSA, the individuals are believed to have acted as ideological supporters of the Islamic group. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the activities of this group.
