Tourism Growth Continues in North Macedonia
New data from the State Statistics Institute indicates a sustained increase in tourism within North Macedonia. The number of overnight stays at local accommodations has been steadily rising, reflecting a growing interest in the region. In 2024, a total of 3,297,732 overnight stays were recorded in North Macedonia.
This figure increased to 3,323,210 overnight stays during 2025, representing a growth rate of 0.8 percent. The Ministry of Transport has outlined plans to bolster the tourism sector through significant infrastructure improvements. These include the announcement of a dozen new airline routes and the ongoing reconstruction of the road network within the country.
However, the potential impact of increased tourism on the environment is also being considered. Concerns have been raised regarding the possibility of pollution, particularly in relation to supporting the industry’s expansion. Notably, some anticipate that efforts to mitigate environmental concerns may inadvertently attract more tourists, especially during the peak summer season in Macedonia.
Further investment is planned to manage this delicate balance.
