FVA Halts Import of Brazilian Chicken Meat Due to Compliance Concerns
The Food and Veterinary Agency (FVA) has stopped the import of 23,685 kilograms of frozen chicken meat originating from Brazil. The decision, made in December 2025, stemmed from a non-compliance with a previous notification regarding import restrictions for animal products intended to prevent the introduction of highly pathogenic avian influenza, commonly known as bird flu. According to the FVA, the consignment of frozen meat, produced in January 2025, was subject to the ban which had been lifted for shipments of poultry originating from animals slaughtered and certified before August 1, 2025.
Border crossing officials took action after identifying the import discrepancy. This incident follows a similar action in Brazil, where the FVA stopped over 26 tons of frozen chicken meat from being imported. The agency’s actions are part of ongoing efforts to safeguard national food safety standards and protect against the spread of avian influenza.
The FVA continues to monitor import activities to ensure adherence to established regulations concerning meat products.
