EBOLA AND NATA MORE THAN 120 LIVES HAVE BEEN KILLED

Ebola Outbreaks Continue in DRC and Uganda, Raising Concerns

The Ebola outbreak continues to pose a significant threat in both the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Uganda. As of today, the African Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) reports approximately 635 confirmed cases of ebola, resulting in 127 deaths. Alongside the DRC, the virus is also spreading in Uganda, with 19 identified cases and two fatalities.

The primary challenge in containing the epidemic centers on the difficulty of effectively tracing contacts of infected people. Within the Ituri region of the DRC, only 5,000 contacts were identified, and a mere 57% were successfully isolated in treatment centers. Africa CDC Director Jean Kasese cautioned that the current response is insufficient, stating, “If we do not have control over infected people and contacts, there is a huge risk of uncontrolled spread in the near future.

We cannot say that we are controlling this epidemic.”

The lack of comprehensive contact tracing represents a critical vulnerability. Authorities are working to improve tracking efforts and increase isolation rates to mitigate the risk of further transmission among the affected people. Ongoing monitoring and expanded containment strategies are considered crucial to managing the ebola outbreak effectively.
