Dacić Reaffirms Independence of SPS Election Campaign, Addresses Kosovo Recognition
Belgrade – Minister of Internal Affairs and leader of the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS), Ivica Dacić, addressed public concerns regarding the upcoming elections and Serbia’s stance on Kosovo during a broadcast on “Na masa sa Apostolos.” Dacić said he had not discussed election strategy with President Aleksandar Vučić. He emphasized that the SPS’s campaign would proceed according to its established, regular schedule. Dacić reiterated Serbia’s position of not interfering in future developments within the region of Kosovo.
However, he stressed the necessity of upholding Serbian national and state interests. “These interests are not respected in historical terms when Kosovo is recognized as an independent country by Serbia,” he said. “This directly impacts Serbia’s history, present, and future, as well as the broader national interests of the region.”
The Minister argued that the issue of Kosovo’s recognition undermines Serbia’s position.
He asserted that the situation does not reflect a broader, coordinated effort, dismissing concerns raised previously regarding individuals involved. “I do not think that we have anyone close to us,” Dacić said, adding that the situation demonstrates that Milos Guskavić was not the sole source of the problem. —
