Did Kosovo get a slap from NATO for its membership? “IT DOESN’T MEAN DECA NIKOGA HAS TO HAPPEN”

US Secretary Rubio Addresses NATO Expansion and Western Balkans Stability

During a hearing before the House Committee on External Affairs, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio addressed ongoing discussions surrounding NATO enlargement and the stability of the Western Balkans. Rubio stated that while NATO expansion, specifically the potential membership of Kosovo, is not currently a primary focus of the agency’s work, it does not preclude the possibility in the future. He clarified that this position doesn’t mean the United States will never support such a move.

The Secretary also voiced strong support for Italy’s nominee, Torsten Slender, as the new High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina. Rubio expressed confidence in Slender’s ability to “complete a good job and help bring stability to that position.”

Responding to questions from Committee on Europe Chairman Kit Self, who has extensively observed the region – including visits to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, and Kosovo – Rubio acknowledged the “exceptionally critical” situation within the Western Balkans. Self’s observations highlighted the complex challenges facing the area.

The exchange underscored the US government’s continued engagement with the region, with a focus on supporting stability and addressing long-standing issues, particularly concerning Kosovo and the broader NATO framework.
