The Regional Government of Southern Ethiopia Communication Office stated on its Facebook page that the tragic event resulted in seventy deaths. An image shared by the Ethiopian Broadcasting Corporation (EBC) depicts residents at the disaster site. The EBC photograph shows individuals struggling amidst the aftermath, with sections of a nearby ridge exposed and some residents wading through mud up to their knees.
