Гаши: Во Кочани изгоре дел од душата на Македонија

The commemorative session for the anniversary of the tragic event in the “Pulse” nightclub began with a minute of silence. At the start of the session, the Speaker of the Assembly, Afrim Gashi, addressed the attendees. Some nights end routinely, others leave memories, but some never end.

There are mornings filled with hope and new strength, but there are also dark mornings that extinguish hope and cause only pain. Such a morning was March 16th of last year, when eight were lost in the tragic night in Kacan. A night that began with a party, with young people celebrating, with friendships and smiles, and ended with tears, wounds, and pain deeply felt throughout the country.

That night, Kacan and Macedonia lost not only their sons and daughters, but also a part of their future. That night, along with the lives of 63 young people, took with it their dreams and plans that had just begun to be built. The stories that were just beginning to be written, and the future of many families in our country.

Today, I stand before you with a deep sense of sorrow and a heavy burden of responsibility, because no matter how a tragedy like this is discussed, it may be one of the most difficult tasks that an institution or a person can undertake. Even after one year, it is difficult to choose words, but even more difficult is to speak them, there are moments when you choose the words, they always seem insufficient to express what a human feels and experiences. This is the obligation I face.

Although public speech is a duty, it has never been so heavy when you are aware that in this case no sentence is enough to fill the void and to alleviate the pain that this tragedy has left for families and for society’s conscience,” Gashi stated. Gashi expressed immense gratitude to everyone who had helped and added that this help would not be forgotten. According to the Speaker of the Assembly, justice must prevail because it can bring a small peace to families and society.

Gashi encouraged institutions to act correctly to achieve justice. Among those we lost were artists who had illuminated the stage for years, there were football stars who were gradually rising, and who knows how many professionals from various fields who were supposed to make us proud. The song by the group D.N.K.

“If I’m not there tomorrow,” which until that night was just a refrain, today takes on a different meaning for anyone who hears it, because for some of those who were singing, tomorrow never came, while for others tomorrow came without those who were singing,” Gashi said. Gashi also addressed the parents of the deceased. Your pain is our pain, but the memory of your loved ones is part of us and our collective consciousness.

I want to end my address with the same words I wrote in the book of sorrow, this tragedy is the last alarm for all political and social figures to return to themselves, to our humanity and finally to rise as a phoenix to rebuild this country from the beginning, but this time on the basis of justice, honesty, clear conscience and sincerity. The tragedy of Kacan should be the last tragedy in our country, but also our guide to a just state with the rule of law. May their memory be eternal,” Gashi concluded.
