Medical ward: 78 doctors have been exposed to violence at work

The medical profession in Macedonia faces a serious challenge, according to a recent survey. Seventy-eight percent of doctors in the country have experienced some form of violence. The survey, conducted by the Medical Chamber, revealed that eighty percent of these incidents were verbal, while six point eight percent involved physical attacks.

This concerning information was released on March 12th, the European Day for the Promotion of the Health Worker’s Struggle. Professor Dr. Kalina Grivcheva Stardelova, the President of the Chamber, emphasized the widespread impact of such aggression.

She stated that when doctors are subjected to verbal, physical, or social attacks, it doesn’t just harm the individual; it affects the entire healthcare system and the patients awaiting assistance. “We doctors are not your enemies,” she asserted. “Quite the contrary, a doctor dedicates their life to fighting for your well-being, often under difficult circumstances.

Violence and aggression are never appropriate responses to systemic issues.” The survey highlights the urgent need to address these concerns surrounding the safety and well-being of medical professionals.
