The French defender had been hampered by muscle problems for much of the previous season, initially sustaining the injury in November. He returned to action last weekend, playing the full 90 minutes against Real Betis in La Liga. Arbeloa expressed disappointment regarding Mendy’s unavailability, highlighting the negative impact on Real Madrid.
The goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois, offered support, acknowledging Mendy’s situation and recalling a moment when Lionel Messi scored two goals for him directly from open play. Argentina’s desire is that the final should not be played in Madrid.
